This past weekend I had a baby shower for my cousin's girlfriend Casey. I had a lot to do the weeks prior but nothing was as bad as the day before. Friday I had planned to bake the cake and cupcakes and start on the decorating, then finish the following morning before the shower. I say planned like it wasn't how it went, well, I made the cake and it was at the shower before guest arrived. But it did go as smoothly as I planned and wasn't as much fun as I usually have when making cakes. Why? Because I came down with a 100.7 degree fever Friday morning that stuck with me thru Saturday. It truly was the most miserable cake making experience I've had. My heart just wasn't in it because honestly all I wante to do is crawl into bed and not come out until the fever went down. I just couldn't do that though, so I pushed thru and the results were surprisingly good.

My first cake adventure....
When my son turned 1 we threw him a big baseball themed birthday party at my parents home which was a lot of hard work and cost just as much money, So when it came to his second birthday we tried to go a little bit more low key (hard to do when you have a HUGE family). The most expensive thing from the first birthday besides food was the cake. It was gorgeous, but a lot of money. So when the second birthday came along and we talked about a cake I decided I was going to make it myself. Now mind you I have many cakes before but none like this one. Once we decided on a theme my creative juices started flowing. I had idea after idea all out of my comfort level. I guess i had been watching too much Cake Boss and Ace of Cakes, I really don't know what got it in me to try such an advanced technique of cakery that I had never done before. But you know what I had so much fun figuring out how to do everything that I knew it was not going to be my last cake and I was right.
Now this cake was far from perfect but I was proud of it just the same. Spongebob's pineapple house, Spongebob himself and Patrick were made out of rice krispy treats wrapped in fondant. It was my first time working with fondant and I found it very hard to cover a cake with it but after many tries and failures I got the cake covered. Still to this day my cake coving with fondant is not perfect but it's improved a whole lot. The cake caught everyones eye and they were in disbelief when they were told that I was the one who made it. Success!!!!!
